Just two days after cornerback Deshazor Everett made the Washington Redskins’ 53-man roster, he was cut on Monday as the team signed tight end Anthony McCoy.

The Redskins were in need of a third tight end after keeping just Jordan Reed and Derek Carrier on the 53-man roster after cuts, and coach Jay Gruden said on Sunday that the team would possibly address the need by picking up a tight end that was cut from another team.

McCoy was cut from the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday and was the team’s sixth-round pick in 2010, which was Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan’s first year in Seattle.

The last two years have been tough for McCoy, who tore his left Achilles’ tendon twice in consecutive offseasons. The first occurred in organized team activities in 2013 and the second happened during training camp in 2014, causing him to miss both season.

McCoy played full seasons in 2011 and 2012 and caught 31 passes for 437 yards and three touchdowns.

Everett, an undrafted rookie from Texas A&M, signed with the Redskins on Aug. 1 after being cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As of right now, the Redskins are carrying just four cornerbacks into Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins — David Amerson, Chris Culliver, DeAngelo Hall and Justin Rogers. Bashaud Breeland is suspended for Week 1.

The Redskins also signed outside linebacker Ryan Delaire to the practice squad, meaning they have filled nine of the 10 spots. It’s possible that Everett could fill the final spot.

Delaire, an undrafted free agent from Towson, was released by the Buccaneers on Saturday.
