Now that the fourth and final preseason game is in the books, the Washington Redskins have until 4 p.m. Saturday to make the final cuts for the 53-man roster.

Thursday’s 17-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars was nothing more than a final audition for the guys on the bubble, as the Redskins need to trim 21 from the roster to get to that final number (suspended cornerback Bashaud Breeland does not count towards the 53).

Perhaps nobody improved their stock more than receiver Rashad Ross, who had 10 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night and a 19-yard punt return. That gave him a league-best 266 yards and four touchdowns in the preseason on 25 catches.

Should he survive the cuts, Ross would factor in as the team’s sixth receiver, joining DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Ryan Grant, Andre Roberts and rookie Jamison Crowder.

Cuts are expected to begin Friday afternoon. Follow along here for live updates as the transactions begin.

Updates:

Saturday, Sept. 5

3:50 p.m. — The Redskins announced their final cuts. They were defensive end Corey Crawford, nose tackle Jerell Powe and defensive linemen Travian Robertson and Robert Thomas. Wide receiver Evan Thompson (concussion) and full back Jordan Campbell were designated as injured, while the team reached an injury settlement with defensive back DaMon Cromartie-Smith.

2:32 p.m. — The Redskins released cornerback Quinton Dunbar with hopes of signing him to the practice squad, according to the Washington Post.

Dunbar, an undrafted free agent out of Florida, converted from wide receiver to the cornerback position.

12:38 p.m.  — The Redskins cut linebacker Houston Bates, but hope to sign him to the practice squad, according to a source. After Thursday’s preseason finale, Bates acknowledged his desire to contribute on special teams and that’s likely where he’ll have the most value.

12:35 p.m. — The Redskins cut running back Trey Williams. Williams, an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M, led the team with 31 carries in the preseason and rushed for 127 yards, only second to Matt Jones.

The team also parted ways with linebacker Terrance Plummer, an undrafted rookie from Central Florida, according to ESPN. Plummer had 13 tackles in the preseason.

12:25 p.m. — The Redskins released tight end Je’Ron Hamm, but are interested in signing him to the practice squad, according to a source. That leaves the team with two tight ends in Jordan Reed and Derek Carrier, with the possibility of tackle/guard Tom Compton getting reps there as well.

12:05 p.m. — The Redskins cut offensive tackle Takoby Cofield and he is expected to sign with the practice squad if he clears waivers, according to a source.

Cofield, an undrafted rookie from Duke, signed with the Redskins in May. ESPN’s John Keim also reported that the team cut guard Tyler Larsen. Larsen was waived by Miami last August after signing as an undrafted free agent and signed with the Redskins in February.

Friday, Sept. 4

4:41 p.m. — Safety Akeem Davis and center Austin Reiter were both released, while Davis is negotiating an injury settlement, according to the Washington Post.

Davis strained his right hamstring Aug. 23 and also broke his left thumb Aug. 3. Reiter was a seventh-round pick from South Florida.

4:20 p.m. — The Redskins reached an injury settlement with tight end D.J. Williams (left groin strain), according to the Washington Post.

Williams was signed after injuries to tight ends Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen.

4:11 p.m. — Running back Mack Brown was released, according to a source.. Brown, an undrafted free agent from Florida, rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries in the preseason.

2:57 p.m. — Redskins cut receivers Colin Lockett and Reggie Bell, according to the Washington Post, while telling Bell the practice squad may be an option. Bell, who went undrafted out of San Diego, had seven catches for 88 yards and a touchdown in the preseason.

Lockett, who spent parts of last year on the Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squads, had three catches for 46 yards.

2:31 p.m. — Linebacker Sage Harold appears to be the first Redskins player cut. He tweeted, “It’s been real Washington,” from his personal account.

Harold, an undrafted free agent from James Madison University, signed with the Redskins after he was cut from the Kansas City Chiefs Aug. 9.
