House Speaker John Boehner sent an email to his supporters Friday showcasing a famous Gettysburg statue of President Lincoln standing next to a modern citizen that he said bears a striking resemblance to himself.

The statue, titled “Return Visit” by J. Seward Johnson, shows Lincoln, with his iconic stovepipe hat, discussing the Gettysburg address with a modern-day citizen wearing a sweater over a collared shirt.

“The modern-day citizen happens to look exactly like me,” Mr. Boehner admitted in a video.

The 40-foot, 40,000-pound bronze statue was dedicated in 1991, the year that the Ohio Republican was first elected to Congress.

It has been on display in Troy, Ohio, for the “Sculptures on the Square” biannual art exhibit.

Mr. Boehner said constituents in his home state have been sending him messages asking about the statue and its eerie resemblance to the lawmaker.

In the email, Mr. Boehner wrote that there is no reason to believe that the similarities are anything more than coincidental, but he admitted, “It’s a little strange.”
