PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — An early morning fire that Pullman police call suspicious has heavily damaged the Planned Parenthood clinic in that college town.

The Spokesman-Review reports that fire crews responded at 3:30 a.m. Friday and had the fire out by 6:30 a.m.

Pullman police Commander Chris Tennant says the building’s north side was heavily damaged.

Cmdr. Tennant says the fire is considered suspicious because Planned Parenthood is controversial and because it started at 3:30 a.m. in an office building.

Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Tanya Riordan said it was too early to speculate on a cause.

“We’re working with local and federal law enforcement to investigate the fire,” she said.
