(1) Justin Bieber, Saint & Sinner, by Rebecca Cusey (The Federalist)

Bieber on his Christianity:

“It’s like a girlfriend. If I have an awesome, bomb girlfriend, I’m gonna wanna show her off and go around and tell people my girl is the shit. I’m not gonna cheat on her because she’s the best. It’s like with God: The whole thing with religion is you present yourself holy and bring your offerings so that God can bless you, when the whole point of the relationship [should be], ‘No, I’m gonna do this because he loves me. I’m gonna do this because he’s amazing and not because [I] have to, [but] because [I] want to.’ That’s the whole thing with religion that’s been throwing off the people. It’s not a ‘have to.’ It should be just like a personal relationship. Like, ‘Hey, I love you because you first loved me.’

(2) Pope Francis Met Privately With Kim Davis and Encouraged Her to “Stay Strong”

“During the meeting Pope Francis said, “Thank you for your courage.” Pope Francis also told Kim Davis, “Stay strong. He held out his hands and asked Kim to pray for him. Kim held his hands and said, “I will. Please pray for me,” and the Pope said he would.”

(3) My Hopes for Synod 2015, by George Weigel (Denver Catholic Register)

“The XIV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Family begins with Mass in St. Peter’s on October 4. No synod in modern Catholic history has drawn such worldwide press attention or generated such controversy within the Church (with the possible exception of the special synod called by John Paul II to examine Vatican II on the twentieth anniversary of its conclusion). Synods have typically been rather dull affairs.”

 (4) Donald Trump Prays With Religious Leaders, by David Brody (CBN)

“Among the attendees were televangelists Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, conservative evangelical Christian Pastor David Jeremiah, TBN religious broadcaster Jan Crouch, Pastor Paula White, Jews For Jesus Rabbi Kirt Schneider and Pastor Darrell Scott. The meeting lasted roughly two and a half hours and ended with pastors gathering around Trump and laying their hands on him in prayer.”

(5) Democrats: The party of abortion, not the party of women (New York Daily News)

***Wishful thinking. I say that sincerely. If abortion were off the table (no Roe), then we could go back to having true 2-party dialogue on a whole host of other issues.

…and Lies, Carly Fiorina and Abortion, by Ross Douthat (New York Times)
