Donald Trump said Thursday that he was “very happy” to learn that a federal judge had tossed out the four-game suspension the NFL had given four-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

Mr. Trump called Mr. Brady a “great guy” and said that he spoke with his “very good friend” to congratulate him for being exonerated in the “Deflategate” case.

“I am very happy for Tom,” Mr. Trump said, before taking a shot a NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “As far as the commission is concerned, they are having a rough year, let’s face it.”

U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said Mr. Goodell went too far in affirming punishment of Mr. Brady, who denied playing a role in a conspiracy to deflate footballs below the allowable limit in last season’s AFC championship game.
