Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said there is language buried in the fine print of the nuclear deal with Iran that could force the United States to side with Iran if they’re attacked by Israel.
“We are being pushed around — you look at this horrendous Iran deal, it’s made by people that are, you know, incompetent,” Mr. Trump said Thursday on “The John Fredericks Show,” a Virginia-based radio show. “Even, you take the four prisoners — they’re still there. Who would not get them out as part of the deal? You just say, ’hey, let ’em go,’ you’ll get ’em out. They refused to ask for it because they didn’t want to complicate the deal.”
Secretary of State John Kerry said in July on MSNBC that “there was not a meeting that took place” where they did not raise the issue of American citizens being held, and said in a speech Wednesday in Philadelphia they will continue to urge Tehran to release U.S. citizens the nation’s government has unjustly imprisoned.
“The 24-day wait, the fact that if Israel attacks them, I guess if you read the, you know, the fine print, if Israel attacks Iran I think we have to be on — of course, this wouldn’t happen, it wouldn’t happen with me, I don’t know, with Obama you never know — but we’re supposed to be on Iran’s side if that happens, OK?” Mr. Trump said.
“And nobody knows this and nobody even talks about that point, but basically we are supposed to protect them,” he said.
