Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says Russian President Vladimir Putin is a nicer person than he is.

“Well, Putin was interviewed and I was interviewed last night. I thought his interview, I thought Charlie Rose did an excellent job, but I thought his was a softer interview,” Mr. Trump said Monday, referring to the episode of “60 Minutes” that aired Sunday evening on CBS.

Mr. Trump said he thought his interviewer, Scott Pelley, was “terrific.” The billionaire businessman was speaking during a question-and-answer session Monday after unveiling details of his tax plan.

“I mean, it was a tough interview, but I thought he was very fair, and I thought the piece was very good,” Mr. Trump said.

“Why is he harder on me than Putin?” Mr. Trump said. “I would say because Putin is a nicer person than I am.”
