Former Arkansas Gov. and GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told social conservatives Friday that he “wasted” his time last year working to help Republicans flip control of the Senate and expand their majority in the House of Representatives.
“After a few months I realized that they were not doing anything different in the majority that they did in the the minority,” Mr. Huckabee said at the Values Voter Summit in D.C., whipping the crowd into a frenzied applause.
The comments came hours after the crowd gathered at the event applauded the news that House Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, was stepping down at the end of October.
Mr. Huckabee also dismissed some of his rivals, saying that for all their big talk and speeches, some have limited records of accomplishments.
He also vowed to protect the unborn if elected president.
