RENTON, Wash. (AP) - Safety Kam Chancellor has ended his holdout and reported to the Seattle Seahawks after missing training camp and the first two weeks of the regular season.
The Seahawks confirmed that Chancellor arrived at the team facility on Wednesday morning. It was his first appearance since June’s minicamp and ended a holdout that lasted nearly eight weeks. The Seahawks are 0-2 after losses to St. Louis and Green Bay. KIRO-AM in Seattle first reported Chancellor’s return.
Chancellor has potentially lost more than $2 million with a holdout that appears to have not resulted in a new contract. It is not clear how much he will be fined.
In a text to ESPN, Chancellor wrote that he intends on dealing with his “business” after the season and that it was time to go help his teammates.
BASKETBALL
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Kevin Durant is all the way back.
The 2013-14 NBA MVP and scoring champion played just 27 games for the Thunder last season because of a broken bone in his right foot. Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced Wednesday that, after three procedures, Durant is ready to go. Training camp begins next week.
“He’s been playing without restriction, five on five, competing as normal,” Presti said.
Durant had surgery in October and returned to play in December with some pain. A screw rubbing against another bone was removed this February. After more pain, Durant consulted with three foot and ankle specialists and had a bone graft in March.
Presti said Durant’s attitude during the process has been impressive.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Myles Jack, No. 9 UCLA’s versatile linebacker and running back, will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, coach Jim Mora announced Wednesday.
Jack hurt his knee during a non-contact drill near the end of Tuesday’s practice, and he had surgery that evening. The junior is the third key Bruins defensive starter lost for the season with injuries this month, joining defensive lineman Eddie Vanderdoes and cornerback Fabian Moreau.
Jack might be the biggest loss of all for the Bruins (3-0), whose national title aspirations have been seriously damaged even without a loss heading into the start of Pac-12 play Saturday at No. 16 Arizona.
With his two-way skills and incredible athleticism, Jack was the most prominent player on the Bruins’ roster along with freshman quarterback Josh Rosen. Jack is one of the nation’s top linebackers, finishing second on the roster last season with 88 tackles while showing off his NFL-ready playmaking acumen.
TENNIS
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) - Third-seeded Dominic Thiem breezed into the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open on Wednesday, beating his fellow Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-2, 7-6 (2).
From 2-1 down in the first set, Thiem won the next seven games to take the set and go a break up in the second as Haider-Maurer struggled with his serve.
Errors from Thiem helped Haider-Maurer to level the score at 4-4 in the second set, but Thiem cruised to victory in the tiebreak.
The 22-year-old Thiem, who is chasing his fourth ATP title of a breakthrough season, had not played since losing to Kevin Anderson in the third round of the U.S. Open 18 days earlier.
