Passing

- Tom Brady, Patriots, threw for three touchdowns and 466 yards - the second-most of his career and most by any player against Buffalo - in leading New England to a 40-32 win.

- Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers, passed for 369 yards and three touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s 43-18 win over San Francisco.

- Derek Carr, Raiders, threw for a career-high 351 yards and three touchdowns - including a 12-yarder to Seth Roberts with 26 seconds left - and overcame a late interception to lead Oakland past Baltimore 37-33.

- Carson Palmer, Cardinals, threw for four touchdowns to lead Arizona to a 48-23 victory over the Chicago Bears.

- Joe Flacco, Ravens, had 384 yards passing and two TDs in a losing cause as Baltimore fell to Oakland 37-33.

- Adrian Peterson, Vikings, had 134 yards rushing on 29 carries in Minnesota’s 26-16 win over Detroit.

- Matt Jones, Redskins, ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns to help Washington top St. Louis 24-10.

- Giovani Bernard, Bengals, finished with 123 yards on 20 attempts after starter Jeremy Hill was benched after two fumbles in Cincinnati’s 24-19 win over San Diego.

- DeAngelo Williams, Steelers, tied a team record with three rushing scores and finished with 77 yards on 20 carries to help lead Pittsburgh past San Francisco 43-18.

- Dexter McCluster, Titans, rushed for 98 yards on just 10 carries in Tennessee’s 28-14 loss at Cleveland.

- Antonio Brown, Steelers, caught nine passes for 195 yards and a touchdown, and had a 2-point conversion catch in Pittsburgh’s 43-18 rout of San Francisco.

- Allen Robinson, Jaguars, caught six passes for 155 yards and two scores to help Jacksonville top Miami 23-20.

- Julio Jones, Falcons, tied the club record with 13 receptions, good for 135 yards in Atlanta’s 24-20 win over the New York Giants.

- Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals, caught three TD passes from Carson Palmer in Arizona’s 48-23 win over Chicago.

- Julian Edelman, Patriots, had 11 catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns in New England’s 40-32 win at Buffalo.

- Tony Jefferson, Cardinals, returned an interception of Jay Cutler 26 yards for a touchdown late in the first half of Arizona’s 48-23 win at Chicago.

- Ryan Shazier, Steelers, had a career-high 15 tackles before leaving with a minor right shoulder injury, in Pittsburgh’s 43-18 win over San Francisco.

- Jacquies Smith, Buccaneers, sacked Drew Brees three times in Tampa Bay’s 26-19 victory at New Orleans.

- Jayrone Elliott, Packers, made a lunging, one-handed interception of a short pass from Russell Wilson with 6:50 left, helping Green Bay top Seattle 27-17.

- David Johnson, Cardinals, returned the opening kickoff a club-record 108 yards and added a rushing TD in Arizona’s 48-23 win at Chicago.

- Kyle Wilbur, Cowboys, returned a blocked punt by Danny McCray 26 yards for a TD in Dallas’ 20-10 at Philadelphia.

- Travis Benjamin, Browns, returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown in Cleveland’s 28-14 victory over Tennessee. He also caught two TD passes from Johnny Manziel.

- Jason Myers, Jaguars, kicked a 28-yard field goal with 40 seconds remaining and Jacksonville held on to beat Miami 23-20.

- Stephen Gostkowski, Patriots, kicked four field goals in New England’s 40-32 at Buffalo.

- Kyle Brindza, Buccaneers, hit four field goals ranging from 22 to 55 yards in Tampa Bay’s 26-19 win at New Orleans.

MILESTONES

New Orleans’ Drew Brees moved past Dan Marino for third in career completions with his 4,968th early in the Saints’ 26-19 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday. Brees, with 4,991 completions, is behind only Brett Favre (6,300) and Peyton Manning (5,977). … Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson (12,577) passed Cris Carter (12,410) for the most combined receiving, returning and rushing yards in Vikings history. … Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger tied Terry Bradshaw’s team record for career wins (107). … San Diego’s Philip Rivers threw a 10-yard touchdown pass early in the second half, the 255th of his career that moved him ahead of Dan Fouts for the club record. … The New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. set an NFL mark with 1,495 yards in the first 14 games of a career. He had seven receptions for 146 yards Sunday in a 24-20 loss to Atlanta. … With four field goals and an extra point in a 27-17 win over Seattle, Green Bay’s Mason Crosby set the franchise record with 1,057 career points.

STREAKS & STATS

San Diego’s Philip Rivers brought a streak of 20 straight completions into Sunday, four shy of Donovan McNabb’s NFL record. He completed his first two throws, and then was high with a third-down pass to Stevie Johnson. His streak set a Chargers record and tied for third-longest in NFL history. … New England’s Tom Brady improved to 24-3 against Buffalo, while the Patriots are 27-3 in the past 30 games against their AFC East rivals following a 40-32 victory. … The seven touchdowns allowed by Chicago in a 48-23 loss to Arizona tied the Bears franchise record. The Bears who had never given up 48 points in a home game, and also tied a club record with 170 penalty yards. … Cleveland built a 21-0 lead and hung on for just its third home-opening win since 1999, 28-14 over Tennessee. … Washington led St. Louis 17-0 at halftime, the first time the Redskins shut out an opponent in the first half since Oct. 2, 2011, also against the Rams (1-1). … Dallas overcame a franchise-record 18 penalties in its 10th consecutive road win, 20-10 over Philadelphia. … The Eagles are 0-2 for the first time since 2007. … Baltimore is 0-2 for the first time since 2005.

WELCOME HOME

Adrian Peterson played his first game in Minnesota in 658 days, and finished with 192 total yards in a 26-16 win over Detroit. The last time Peterson took the field in Minnesota was Dec. 1, 2013, also the date of his previous 100-yard game. Out of the league nearly all of last season for the child abuse case against him, Peterson received a pregame standing ovation and a couple of “AP! AP! AP!” chants from the fans on a sun-soaked afternoon. He rushed 29 times for 134 yards.

MR. DO-IT-ALL

Arizona rookie running back David Johnson had a 108-yard kickoff-return touchdown and a 13-yard touchdown run in the Cardinals’ 48-23 win at Chicago. Johnson, who had a 55-yard touchdown reception last week in his NFL debut, is the first player in NFL history with a rushing TD, receiving TD and kickoff return for a TD in his first two games to begin a career. His kickoff return score is tied for the second-longest in NFL history, and is the longest touchdown in franchise history. Johnson is also the first Cardinals player to have a kickoff-return touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the same game since Hall of Famer Ollie Matson in 1958.

HEISMAN WINNERS

Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston and Cleveland’s Johnny Manziel each led their teams to victories Sunday, marking the first time in NFL history that two Heisman-winning quarterbacks each earned his first career win on the same day. Winston, who went to Florida State, helped the Buccaneers beat New Orleans 26-19, while Manziel, who went to Texas A&M, lead Cleveland past Tennessee 28-14.

CAM CAN

Carolina’s Cam Newton threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns and showed a flair for the dramatic by somersaulting into the end zone on a quarterback draw to lead the Panthers to a 24-17 victory over the Houston Texans. It marked the 25th time in his career that he had both a passing and rushing touchdown in the same game, the second-most in NFL history behind only Steve Young (31). Newton reached 25 such performances in his 64th career game, the fastest in NFL history. Young accomplished it in 146 games.

NOT-SO-SUPER MARIO

Marcus Mariota threw two TD passes in the second half of Tennessee’s 28-14 loss at Cleveland, but took a pounding in his second NFL game. The No. 2 overall pick was sacked seven times and needed extra treatment on an injured left ankle afterward. Mariota finished 21 of 37 for 257 yards. With the Titans down 14 and needing two scores, Mariota, who recorded a perfect passer’s rating last week in his pro debut against Tampa Bay, drove Tennessee inside the Cleveland 20, but was sacked and stripped by defensive end Armonty Bryant.

SHUT DOWN

Philadelphia’s DeMarco Murray, the reigning NFL rushing champion, rushed for just 2 yards on 13 carries against his former team as the Eagles fell to Dallas 20-10. Murray had only had 9 yards rushing on eight carries in a 26-24 loss at Atlanta last Monday night.

ST. LOUIS LETDOWN

Last week, the St. Louis Rams beat the two-time reigning NFC champion Seattle Seahawks 34-31 in overtime. But they’re only 2-15 since 2005 in regular-season games immediately following a game against Seattle with a 24-10 loss at Washington on Sunday.

ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMIN

Cleveland’s Travis Benjamin had three catches for 115 yards with two touchdowns (60 yards and 50 yards) and added a 78-yard punt-return touchdown in the Browns’ 28-14 win over Tennessee. He joined St. Louis’ Tavon Austin (2013) as the only players in NFL history with a punt return of 75 yards or more for a TD with two TD catches of 50 yards of more in the same game. Benjamin, who had a 54-yard touchdown catch in Week 1, is the first NFL player with four 50-plus-yard touchdowns in the first two games of a season since Jim Brown in 1963.

Dallas QB Tony Romo broke his left collarbone in the 20-10 win over Philadelphia, spoiling his team’s 2-0 start. Romo said tests on Monday will likely determine how long he’s out. … Buffalo S Aaron Williams went through a series of tests on his neck and head area and was released from a hospital. Williams was hurt after diving to make a tackle in a 40-32 loss to New England. … Chicago QB Jay Cutler left a 48-23 loss against Arizona with an injury. Cutler was stiff-armed while trying to make a tackle on an interception return and landed on his right shoulder, though the team said he left the game because of a hamstring injury. … San Francisco RB Carlos Hyde was taken out of a 43-18 loss at Pittsburgh because of a head injury, and 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said the rookie was cleared after an evaluation for a concussion. … Detroit QB Matthew Stafford had X-rays on his chest and ribs after a 26-16 loss at Minnesota. Stafford was seen shaking his right arm, which was banged up in the opener, in pain at several points through the game. … Green Bay RB Eddie Lacy left in the first quarter of a 27-17 win over Seattle with a right ankle injury.
