Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Monday labeled last Wednesday’s GOP debate in California a “ridiculous debate” with “stupid questions” — but also said he was having a good time.
Asked on “Fox and Friends” about retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson’s statement on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Mr. Carson would not advocate that a Muslim serve as president, Mr. Trump said he’s “really gotten to like” Mr. Carson.
“In fact, during the ridiculous debate — it was such a ridiculous debate, three hours and stupid questions — but during that debate, we were high-fiving each other, I mean we were having actually a good time,” Mr. Trump said.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Carson shared a sort of handshake after Mr. Carson spoke about his opposition to the Iraq War. Mr. Trump also held out his hand for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to give him a low five after Mr. Bush said he’d like his Secret Service code name to be “Eveready” — an acknowledgement of Mr. Trump’s repeatedly labeling the former governor “low energy.”
On the Muslim comment, Mr. Trump said Mr. Carson is “speaking his opinion.”
“We talk about freedom of speech. He feels very strongly about it,” Mr. Trump said. “I watched yesterday, I watched some of his representatives talking, and he feels very strongly about it.”
