Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said on Monday that while former Hewlett-Packard CEO and 2016 GOP rival Carly Fiorina has a “good line of pitter-patter,” Ms. Fiorina says the same thing over and over again and has a business record of “tremendous failure.”
“Well, I think when people find out what a horrible job she did in business, running two companies into the ground, Lucent and HP, I think that, you know, she lost to Barbara Boxer in a landslide,” Mr. Trump said Monday on NBC’s “Today” program, alluding to Ms. Fiorina’s unsuccessful U.S. Senate run in 2010 in California. “She was leading that race; it was a race that should have been won by the Republicans and she got absolutely decimated in that race.”
In a national poll conducted after the GOP debate last Wednesday, Mr. Trump was first in the race for the Republican nomination at 24 percent, with Ms. Fiorina jumping up to second place, at 15 percent.
Asked why she’s surging now, Mr. Trump said “because she’s got [a] good line of pitter-patter.”
“If you listen to her speaking, it’s the same line that ’I will speak to my friend Bibi Netanyahu,’ etcetera, etcetera. She says the same thing over and over and over, but a lot of people didn’t hear it in the debate, so they heard it for the first time,” he said. “It’s almost like robotic. You look at it, and it’s robotic.”
“But I think people will understand her soon, and when they look at her record of tremendous failure — look, she took Lucent into the ground, she took HP into the ground, destroyed it, and … then she ran for the Senate in a race that should have been won, and lost because of the fact that she did so badly as a business leader,” Mr. Trump said.
