South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said Wednesday that she is open to listening to the eventual GOP presidential nominee if they are interested in talking with her about becoming their running mate.
Mrs. Haley was a featured speaker at the National Press Club in Washington, where delivered an address on the “Lessons from the New South.”
During a question-and-answer session, Mrs. Haley refused to commit to serving out her second term as governor, which ends in January 2019, and left the door open to joining the 2016 GOP ticket.
“If there is a time where a presidential nominee wants to sit down and talk, of course I will sit down and talk, but you know I am very aware you have 16 really great candidates,” she said. “You are going to have 15 very potential good vice presidential candidates.
“So I just I really don’t think about that. I want to keep my promise to the people of South Carolina, which is to make every day better than the day before,” she said. “If a nominee asks me to sit down, of course I will talk to them, and then we’ll go from there.”
Mrs. Haley’s name is often bandied about as a possible vice presidential candidate.
