Donald Trump said Wednesday that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush could set an example in the 2016 GOP nomination race by speaking English — not Spanish.
In an interview with the Breitbart News Network, Mr. Trump countered the claim Mr. Bush made speaking in Spanish this week that the New York billionaire and front-runner in the Republican nomination race is not a conservative.
“I like Jeb,” Mr. Trump said. “He’s a nice man. But he should really set the example by speaking English while in the United States.”
Mr. Trump and Mr. Bush in recent weeks have engaged in an escalating war of words.
Mr. Bush has made the case that Mr. Trump is a faux conservative and rolled out a web video this week highlighting Mr. Trump’s past liberal leanings, including on abortion and health care.
Mr. Trump, meanwhile, has cast Mr. Bush as a “low-energy” retread with an overly rosy view of immigration and painted him as a stooge for deep-pocketed campaign donors that are not driven by the best interests of the nation.
