Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he likes retired neurosurgeon and 2016 GOP rival Ben Carson a lot, calling him a “good guy.”

“Well, I like Ben a lot. He’s a good guy,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “But he’s been spending a tremendous amount of advertising money out in Iowa, and the one poll where we have a tie and the other one I’m leading by quite a bit in Iowa.”

Mr. Trump had been asked what he makes of the threat posed by Mr. Carson in Iowa. Mr. Carson has been rising in recent polling on the 2016 GOP field and pulled even with Mr. Trump in a recent Monmouth University poll on the early caucus state. Mr. Trump still has about a 5-point lead over Mr. Carson in Iowa in the latest RealClearPolitics average.

“But one of ’em came out, and [a] little bit surprisingly there was a tie and I think that’s great, but Ben is spending money in Iowa and I’m not,” Mr. Trump said.

Mr. Trump did say he has been in Iowa quite a bit and that he has gotten a tremendous response from the crowds there.

“But Ben is spending a lot of money in Iowa,” he said.
