Carly Fiorina got one of the loudest cheers of the night in the second Republican presidential debate when she counterattacked frontrunner Donald Trump for criticizing her appearance.

In an interview last week, Mr. Trump said of the only female GOP candidate, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president.”

He later said he was talking only about her persona, not her looks.

In the debate Wednesday night, moderator Jake Tapper of CNN asked Ms. Fiorina if she wanted to comment on Mr. Trump’s “persona.”

Referring to sparring on stage minutes earlier between Mr. Trump and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on women’s health, Ms. Fiorina commented dryly, “It’s interesting to me — Mr. Trump said that he heard Mr. Bush very clearly in what Mr. Bush said [about defunding women’s health programs]. I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.”
