Hurricane Joaquin is long gone, but hard-hit South Carolinians are bracing for more rain and evacuations while still in post-flooding mode.

America’s generous hearts are still needed in the Palmetto State.

Here are some recommendations, courtesy of the Independent Mail website.

Flood relief donation and volunteer opportunities

First steps
If you want to make a donation, can provide transportation or wish to volunteer, please call state coordinators at 888-585-9643 to make sure supplies, money and assistance are given to those in greatest need.

Money is the biggest need
• American Red Cross of Central South Carolina can be reached at 1-800-435-7669.
• Donations to Red Cross can be made via text message by sending “GETFLOOD” to 90999.
• The Salvation Army is accepting donations, text “STORM” to 51555, visit salvationarmycarolinas.org/flood or call 1-800 SAL-ARMY.
• Other organizations including the United Way, various churches and food banks can be reached at here.
