Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas raised more than $1.1 million in the first 22 hours after the start of this week’s GOP presidential debate.

From the beginning of Wednesday’s debate until midnight that night, Mr. Cruz said the campaign raised $772,000 online.

“We’re now sitting here 22 hours after the debate started — we’ve raised over $1.1 million,” he said on Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier” Thursday. “That is a real demonstration, I think, of the hunger Republican primary voters have for someone who’ll actually stand and fight for ’em.”

Mr. Cruz delivered one of the more memorable lines of the night when he ripped into the CNBC moderators for their lines of questioning — criticism that other candidates echoed throughout the debate and afterward.

“The questions that have been asked so far in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media,” he said Wednesday to applause from the crowd.

“This is not a cage match,” Mr. Cruz said. “And you look at the questions: Donald Trump, are you a comic book villain? Ben Carson, can you do math? John Kasich, will you insult two people over here? Marco Rubio, why don’t you resign? Jeb Bush, why have your numbers fallen?”

“How about talking about the substantive issues people care about?” he said.
