ASHBURN — Washington Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland bruised a rotator cuff in Sunday’s 25-19 overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons, an injury coach Jay Gruden said the team will have to monitor “pretty closely.”

The Redskins’ secondary was shorthanded again on Sunday with both DeAngelo Hall and Chris Culliver out, and Breeland stepped up with four pass deflections and an interception.

The second-year cornerback played all 80 of the Redskins’ defensive snaps, though he did not come away from the game unscathed.

“He’s pretty sore,” Gruden said. “He could barely lift his hand up over past his shoulder, so he’s sore, but hopefully with some good treatment he’ll be OK.”

Left tackle Trent Williams is day-to-day with a neck strain and was also ill after Sunday’s game. Running back Matt Jones sprained one of his big toes and is also day-to-day.

Gruden said the team has “a bunch of other bumps and bruises” that he will update on Wednesday.

The Redskins cannot afford to lose Breeland with the secondary already hampered by Hall and Culliver’s injuries.

Culliver, hobbled by an injury to his left knee that is also affecting his quad and groin, was held out of Sunday’s game after playing through the injury in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hall, who sprained his right big toe in Week 3 against the New York Giants, has not played since. Gruden said both players will get more repetitions in practice this week, as will wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who has not played in a game since sustaining a left hamstring tear in the season opener.

Tight end Jordan Reed is still undergoing independent testing for a concussion he sustained against the Eagles, but Gruden said that he is improving from the symptoms.
