A U.S. military transport plane crashed while taking off from an airport in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, early Friday, killing 12 people including five U.S. service members, NBC News reported.
In addition to the five U.S. service members that made up the crew of the aircraft, five civilian contractors who were passengers were killed, along with two Afghan civilians on the ground.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. U.S. Army Col. Brian Tribus told NBC News that there were no reports of hostile activity in the area at the time of the crash.
