Sen. Rand Paul raised about $2.5 million for his presidential bid over the last three months, a marked drop-off from the previous reporting period.
Some political observers have predicted that the Kentucky senator could be the next GOP candidate to exit the race, but Sergio Gor, a Paul spokesperson, signaled Thursday that the freshman lawmaker plans on sticking around.
“A key takeaway is that we raised $750,000 in just the last two weeks since the 2nd GOP Debate,” Mr. Gor said of Mr. Paul’s third quarter fundraising filing with the Federal Election Commission.
“With $2 million cash on hand, our campaign is in for the long haul and Senator Paul’s message of limited government and individual liberty will continue to resonate with primary voters,” he said.
Mr. Paul reported raising more than $6.9 million in his second quarter filing, which ran from April to June. The latest filing covers July, August and September.
Mr. Paul slipped in the polls over the summer and one of the three super PACs supporting him had stopped raising money.
