Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is tied with retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson in a hypothetical head-to-head 2016 presidential match-up and leads several other top Republicans, according to newly released NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll numbers.

Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, was tied with Mr. Carson, a top GOP contender, at 47 percent in the poll among registered voters.

She led Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida by 3 points, 47 percent to 44 percent; she led former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush by 4 points, 47 percent to 43 percent; and she led businessman Donald Trump by 8 points, 50 percent to 42 percent.

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Mrs. Clinton’s chief 2016 rival on the Democratic side, actually had marginally bigger leads than Mrs. Clinton did when pitted against Mr. Rubio and Mr. Trump head-to-head. He led Mr. Rubio by 5 points, 46 percent to 41 percent; and he led Mr. Trump by 9 points, 50 percent to 41 percent.

But among Democrats, Mrs. Clinton had a two-to-one advantage over Mr. Sanders, 62 percent to 31 percent.

Mr. Carson was in first place among the GOP field at 29 percent, followed by Mr. Trump at 23 percent, Mr. Rubio at 11 percent, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas at 10 percent, and Mr. Bush at 8 percent.
