Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani recalled Wednesday hearing reports about people cheering the 9/11 terror attacks, but didn’t see it for himself.

Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump recently reiterated his claim that he saw “thousands” of people in Jersey City, New Jersey, cheering as the twin towers fell, a claim that fact-checking publications have called false.

Mr. Giuliani, who was mayor at the time of the attack, addressed the claim Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Talking Points Memo reported.

“Well, look, as you know I was deeply involved in it,” Mr. Giuliani said. “I heard reports of such things in New Jersey, in New York. I didn’t see it.”

“You never saw news reports about it, did you?” co-host Joe Scarborough asked the former Republican presidential candidate.

“I really saw a Washington Post article describing some kind of celebrations, but no, I didn’t see news reports at the time,” Mr. Giuliani said.
