ASHBURN — When both left tackle Trent Williams and tight end Jordan Reed were injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s lopsided 44-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers, it had the potential to be a serious blow to the Washington Redskins’ offense.

Instead, coach Jay Gruden said both Williams and Reed escaped the game with minor injuries. Reed, who sprained the MCL in one of his knees, returned to the game. Williams bruised the patella tendon in his left knee. He limped off the field and was carted to the locker room, but later returned to the sideline with his knee wrapped. Gruden said Williams is day to day.

Running back Alfred Morris is also day to day after aggravating a rib injury. Morris played just three snaps on Sunday, but Gruden sounded optimistic it will not force the running back to miss more time.

“Possibly, but we’ll have to wait and see,” Gruden said when asked if the team would add a running back to the roster. “I think he’ll be OK, based on what I’m hearing. We have a couple of options we can make but we’ll just wait and see Wednesday how he’s doing.”

After the game, Williams said he was in a lot of pain, but that there was no structural damage and he would do “everything in his power” to play.

McCoy cut; Hamm signed off practice squad

The Redskins cut tight end Anthony McCoy on Monday and signed tight end Je’Ron Hamm to the active roster from the practice squad.

McCoy was signed on Sept. 7 and was used primarily as a run blocker in three-tight end sets, but has been inactive the last three games.

The Redskins also signed linebackers Derrick Matthews and Lynden Trail to the practice squad.
