Former Alaska Gov. and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin held out Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and real estate mogul Donald Trump as 2016 presidential candidates to trust on the issue of national security.

“There isn’t a Democrat candidate strong enough for any of the people of America if our desire is to stay safe and sovereign,” Mrs. Palin said Tuesday on “Fox and Friends.”

“Thankfully, we do have Republicans in that field who are hawkish enough at this time,” she said. “Thankfully, Ted Cruz is extremely strong on this.”

She also mentioned Mr. Trump’s name.

Mrs. Palin was plucked from relative obscurity for the GOP ticket by 2008 Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain. She quit her job as governor in July 2009 but still retains rock star status among some grassroots conservatives.
