Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson called on Congress Monday to immediately strip funding for the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the United States.
President Obama is facing significant push back over his administration’s plans to bring more Syrian refugees into the United States following the attacks in Paris, which has raised concerns about terrorist threats.
“Congress, I think, should defund all the programs that allow these people to be brought here — immediately, today,” Mr. Carson said during a press conference in Nevada.
Mr. Carson is among a number of 2016 GOP presidential hopefuls that are warning that the federal government could be opening the door for terrorists to sneak into the country and should take steps to make sure that does not happen.
As for those that have already been relocated in the country, Mr. Carson said they should be closely monitored.
