SEOUL, South Korea — A news report says U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Pyongyang this week for a possible meeting with leader Kim Jong-un.
Yonhap news agency cited an unidentified source in the U.N. when it reported Monday about Ban’s trip. It gave no details on the purpose of his trip or when it will take place.
U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said he had no comment.
If the trip takes place, Ban would be the first U.N. head to visit North Korea since Boutros Boutros-Ghali in 1993.
Ban had planned to visit the North Korean city of Kaesong in May to tour a factory park jointly run with South Korea but the trip was cancelled at the last minute.
