A Southern California band was scheduled to play Friday night at the Bataclan theater where 100 people are reportedly being held hostage.
Eagles of Death Metal, a rock group based in Palm Desert, was scheduled to perform at the Bataclan Friday night, where six to eight hostage-takers were reportedly going through the venue looking for people who might be hiding, a local CW affiliate reported.
The wife of drummer Julian Dorio told The Washington Post that her husband and the other band members of Eagles of Death Metal are safe.
“We are just holding our breath and saying prayers for everyone,” Emily Dorio said. The pair only spoke briefly. “He called to say that he loved me and he was safe. Everyone on stage was able to get off.”
Fifteen people have died at the club, according to The Associated Press, and hostage taking is underway. The New York Times reported that a witness told French television that someone shouted “Allahu Akbar,” “God is greatest,” as the shooting occurred.
At least 35 people have been killed in at least three separate shooting attacks in Paris. A police official said 11 people were also killed in a Paris restaurant in the 10th arrondissement, AP reported.
Multiple explosions were also heard, including at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, where a large crowd had gathered to watch the France-Germany soccer match.
Eagles of Death Metal is the collaboration between Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. Mr. Homme did not join the band for their European tour, Consequence of Sound reported.
