Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania says he’ll make his 2016 intentions known on May 27 in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he grew up.
Mr. Santorum came from behind to win the 2012 Iowa caucuses and won 10 other states during the 2012 GOP presidential nominating contest, saying he was “clearly the underdog” in that race and acknowledging he’d be in a similar position this time around.
“We’re very comfortable there,” he said this week on Fox News’ “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”
The strong social conservative has struck a populist tone of late, publishing a book last year called “Blue Collar Conservatives.” But he still has a strong following among evangelical Christians and could face competition for that bloc of voters from people like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who won Iowa in 2008 and entered the 2016 race for the White House earlier this week.
