Brandon Valle, an Army soldier and student at the University of Nebraska Omaha, is being hailed a hero after he helped take down a knife-wielding attacker at the college library.
Omaha Police responded to a call Wednesday morning at the campus’ Criss Library after an angry student armed with three knives allegedly threatened to slash people’s throats, a local NBC affiliate reported.
Mr. Valle, 30, said the student, identified by police as 20-year-old Leo Labogen, snapped and pulled out a knife after he was asked to take his loud phone conversation outside.
“He’s screaming out he’s going to kill us and slit people’s throats,” Mr. Valle told the station. “I knew it was a threat and this person had crossed a line — it was time to do something about it.”
“As soon as he pulled the knife out, I grabbed his wrist and twisted him and put him down on the couch,” the soldier said.
Two other students reportedly helped Mr. Valle pin the suspect down until Omaha Police arrived.
Mr. Labogen has been charged with attempted felony assault, the station reported.
