When Jessica Klein’s husband, Captain Flip Klein, was severely injured, resulting in a triple amputation, she was unwilling to just watch his health decline.

She probed hard for answers and fought to reverse his downward slide against great odds. Now, Jessica offers him additional strength, by his side every day at Walter Reed, and administering his medications, tending to his therapy, and supporting his daily needs.

She is constantly on call, rarely more than 10 minutes away. When the Kleins tragically lost their home and possessions to a fire, Jessica was overcome by smoke, rescuing Flip and their two dogs. They embrace the little victories in their daily lives, and know that while progress comes slowly, it’s worth working towards.

Jessica understands the commitment she made to be his caregiver is decades-long and that as they age, they will need constant support that is not always easy to find.

She has begun to worry that as the wars wind down, the wounded warriors and their caregivers will be forgotten.
