OPINION:
“Cinco de Mayo” is Spanish for “Fifth of May.” The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It has nothing to do with the United States, but everything to do with Mexico. However, there are some Americans who use Cinco de Mayo as an excuse to become intoxicated and rowdy.
These same Americans who get intoxicated and rowdy on Cinco de Mayo are no different from the protesters who use police misbehavior as an excuse to riot and loot. Immoral behavior is immoral behavior. Therefore, take note of the plank in your own eye before you notice the speck in your brother’s eye. Judgment and condemnation belongs to God.
