U.S. military granted permanent access to Moron Air Base; Kerry to sign deal in Madrid

The U.S. military has secured a deal with the Spanish government that will allow for troops to be permanently stationed at Morón Air Base.

Spain’s Cabinet approved the deal, which will allow for 3,000 troops to be stationed at the base, The Associated Press reported Friday. The number of U.S. aircraft allowed on the base was increased from 14 to 40.

U.S. military personnel stationed at the base have been used to rapidly respond to crises in Africa. The U.S. military previously had to renew its deal with the Spanish government on a yearly basis.

Secretary of State John Kerry plans to sign the agreement Monday in Madrid, AP reported.
