An Anheuser-Busch plant in northwest Georgia has temporarily halted its production of beer in order to supply thousands of cans of drinking water to flood-ravaged Texas and Oklahoma.

Anheuser-Busch said it had stopped beer production at its Cartersville brewery late Wednesday night to produce 50,000 cans of water for the American Red Cross, NBC News reported.

“Right now, our production line is running emergency drinking water instead of beer,” Cartersville brewery manager Rob Haas told NBC.

The Cartersville brewery produces cans of emergency relief water a few times a year and partners with the American Red Cross for distribution in affected areas, Mr. Haas said.

“It’s something we’re uniquely positioned to do in a very timely period,” he said.

About 2,000 cases are en route to communities in Texas and Oklahoma, where at least 25 people have died due to storms and flooding that’s damaged thousands of homes and left more than a dozen missing, NBC reported.

The canned drinking water is expected to arrive in affected areas within the next few days, Mr. Haas said.
