Large numbers of unmarked Russian troops, tanks and heavy weaponry without insignia are reportedly amassing roughly 30 miles from the Ukraine border.
A reporter for Reuters said Wednesday that the buildup of weaponry was taking place at the Kuzminsky firing range. Soldiers said they were sent for military exercises only.
Russian officials were asked during a conference call if the troop movement was a precursor to an invasion.
“I find the wording of this question, ’if an invasion is being prepared,’ inappropriate as such,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, Reuters reported.
Reporters said that four goods trains have made their way to a rail station in the Rostov region of southern Russia since last Saturday.
Russia’s defense ministry had no immediate comment, Reuters reported.
