Russian officials confirmed on Tuesday the sale of S-300 air defense missile systems to Iran.
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the delivery date and details still need to be finalized.
“The decision on delivering S-300 to Iran has been taken, but the realization of the project will take some time,” said Mr. Lukyanov, Agence France Presse reported Tuesday.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called the deal a “success” and predicted the delivery of the weapons systems “at the soonest opportunity possible,” AFP reported.
A ban on delivering sophisticated weapons systems to Iran was lifted last month by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
