Left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver DeSean Jackson were among the six players on the Washington Redskins’ 90-man roster who were not in attendance for Tuesday’s on-the-field workout.
The workouts, which were the next progression in the NFL’s offseason program, are voluntary. Players are not required to take part in any mandatory workout until mini-camp, which, for the Redskins, is June 16 through June 18.
Williams was unable to catch a flight back from Houston on Monday night because of flooding and storms in the area, while Jackson had previously told coach Jay Gruden he would join the team next week.
Oft-injured tight end Jordan Reed has been experiencing soreness in one of his knees, Gruden said, and was having it examined, while cornerback Tracy Porter also could not catch a flight.
Outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan was at the facility, but is still on crutches after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last week. Daryl Waud, a defensive end signed off a rookie mini-camp tryout, left the team and was waived on Tuesday afternoon.
“Ryan’s going to be fine,” Gruden said. “He just got a scope. Cleaned it out, and he’s going to be ready to roll soon.”

With Kerrigan out, Trevardo Williams stepped in alongside Trent Murphy as the top outside linebackers. Duke Ihenacho worked as the first-team strong safety, lining up alongside free safety Dashon Goldson and relegating Jeron Johnson to second-team work, and with DeAngelo Hall still recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon, Bashaud Breeland joined Chris Culliver as the top cornerbacks, with Breeland covering the slot and David Amerson entering in nickel situations.
On offense, Tom Compton worked at left tackle for Trent Williams, with first-round draft pick Brandon Scherff at right tackle. Chris Thompson received the bulk of the carries behind Morris, while Pierre Garçon and Andre Roberts were the first two players up in two-receiver sets.
Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy split second-team reps, while the second-team offensive line featured, from left to right, Takoby Cofield, Josh LeRibeus, Austin Reiter, Spencer Long and Ty Nsekhe, who was filling in as Morgan Moses continues to recover from a Lisfranc sprain of his left foot.
“I’m not cleared yet, but I feel like I’m getting close to that, so it was good to be out there now, getting out there with the guys and just running around some,” Morgan said.
