A Canadian tourist visiting the Thai island of Koh Phangan says his recent run-in with an elephant left him with “the selfie of a lifetime.”

Christian LeBlanc, 22, said that a GoPro “elphie” taken by an elephant started when he and his girlfriend decided to explore the island. The couple paid 50 cents to feed the animal bananas, but it seemingly had additional plans.

“Next thing I knew, it grabbed my GoPro by the mount and I got the selfie of a lifetime, which I can’t take full credit for,” Mr. LeBlanc told CNN on Sunday. “Elephants are incredibly intelligent, and it definitely makes you wonder if it was a conscious action.”

Mr. LeBlanc told CNN that the photo that he posted to Instagram was taken roughly two months ago.

“At first, I was a little cautious of its size. However, a few minutes in, I realized that despite its power, the elephant was relatively gentle. I got comfortable enough that I let my guard down and let it grab my GoPro,” he told CNN.
