Robert Gates, former Secretary of Defense and Boy Scouts of America president, called for an end to the organization’s ban on gay troop leaders.

“We cannot ignore the social, political and judicial changes taking place in our country,” Mr. Gates said at a meeting for the organization’s leadership, USA Today reported Thursday.

Boy Scouts of America ended its ban on gay Boy Scouts two years ago but opted not to change its rules regarding troop leaders at the time.
