Hillary Rodham Clinton’s first big campaign rally also will be the prize in a fundraising raffle, her campaign announced Wednesday.
In an email to supporters, the Clinton campaign promised to automatically enter donors in a sweepstakes to win a trip and all-access pass to Mrs. Clinton’s first rally.
“Huge news: You could win a free trip to meet Hillary,” Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook declared the email.
“Soon, Hillary will speak to thousands of people at our very first rally. This is going to be the biggest event of the campaign so far, and you could have an all-access pass — see everything unfold behind the scenes and get a chance to meet Hillary herself,” he wrote.
A click of the “donate” button opened a donation page on the campaign website, which accepted contributions from $5 to $2,700.
Since announcing her White House run last month, Mrs. Clinton has limited her campaign to small events, such as roundtable discussions and meeting in supporters’ homes. The campaign has said the first major rally will be later in May, but hasn’t provided any details.
The fundraising email harkened back to gimmicks employed by President Obama in his 2008 and 2012 campaigns.
“This rally will start a new phase in the campaign. Hillary is going to lay out her vision for how to build a bright future for our families and our country, and launch an incredible summer of organizing,” Mr. Mook wrote. “It’ll be one of the most exciting moments of the campaign so far — trust me, you don’t want to miss this opportunity to be there as our guest.”
