Lawyers sue for a lot of things in America, but there is one type of lawsuit American lawyers haven’t figured out yet. It is a true pity that Americans cannot sue their elected officials for breach of promise. If Americans could, most politicians would spend more time in court than in Congress.
That wouldn’t be a bad idea, since it would mean they had less time to pass laws that screw up America.
If real Americans could sue politicians for breaking their promises, the Republican Party would be bankrupt. The Democrats may be the Party of Treason, but at least they tell America what they are doing and they try to keep their promises.
That certainly cannot be said of the Republicans.
In 2010, Republicans promised that if America just elected them, the GOP would stand and fight against President Obama and to repeal Obamacare. In 2014, the GOP told America that if the nation just trusted the Republicans with both the House and the Senate, they would stand against Mr. Obama and repeal Obamacare.
Now the Republicans control the House of Representatives and the Senate. So what is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s top priority right now?
It is giving Mr. Obama a blank check to write a bad treaty that really screws America. Instead of fulfilling campaign promises to the American people to stand against Mr. Obama and to repeal Obamacare, Mr. McConnell is ramrodding through what is known as Trade Promotional Authority for Mr. Obama.
What this means in plain, non-politician English is that the Obama regime would be allowed to negotiate this treaty in secret then present it to Congress. This truly would be a case of Congress would have to pass this treaty to find out what is in it.
Why would any Republican want to give Mr. Obama a blank check?
The Obama regime’s record of negotiating is, to put it mildly, appalling. Either they are the most incompetent group of negotiators that have ever walked across the face of the Earth or the regime’s idea of a good treaty is one what screws America. The list of Obama negotiating disasters is legendary. They range from the Bergdahl deal where Mr. Obama traded five of the most dangerous terrorists in the world for one deserter to his infamous climate change deal with China. In that deal, America must disembowel its energy sector in the next 15 years to achieve “climate change” goals while 20 years from now, China can think about doing something.
Mr. McConnell has doubled down now in his support of Obama’s Trade Promotion Authority. Mr. McConnell is denying Republicans and Democrats the time for floor debate in what is typically referred to as the “world’s greatest deliberative body.”
Instead, Mr. McConnell is vowing to get Trade Promotional Authority, or fast track as it is sometimes called, passed by Memorial Day.
Where is the fight against Mr. Obama?
Mr. McConnell has nothing but effusive praise for Mr. Obama today. M. McConnell said Mr. Obama has done an “excellent job” in pushing the job destroying treaty.
Again, why are the Republicans so excited about giving Mr. Obama another blank check? Some conservatives who oppose the Trans Pacific Partnership have started referring to it as Obamatrade.
Conservatives stayed home in 2012 and Mitt Romney lost. In 2010 and 2014, conservatives got out and Republicans win. Now conservatives who worked so hard to see Republicans win are asking themselves why? Why did they put in so much effort to see the GOP simply roll over and do what ever the Obama regime wants?
Perhaps it really is time to take the elephant as the Republican symbol and replace it with the freshly laundered white flag of surrender.
That certainly epitomizes what the Republican Party is today.
