An advocacy group associated with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is running an ad in the early caucus state of Iowa touting Mr. Jindal’s commitment to promoting religious liberty.
“Our religious liberty must in no way ever be linked to the ever-changing opinions of the public,” Mr. Jindal says in the 30-second spot released by the American Future Project. “We must understand that our freedom of conscience protects all Americans of every persuasion.”
The group said the ad will run in Iowa for one week on cable and online.
Mr. Jindal announced Monday he is launching an exploratory committee as he weighs a 2016 presidential run and said he’ll make a final decision after the legislative session in Louisiana ends in June.
He is running near the back of the 2016 GOP pack in public polling on the prospective field, but the early overture could preview a strategy from Mr. Jindal to make a play for support from evangelical Christians and social conservatives, who helped propel former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania to victories in Iowa in 2008 and 2012, respectively.
Mr. Huckabee announced earlier this month he is running for president again in 2016 and Mr. Santorum has said he’ll announce a 2016 decision on May 27.
