Amtrak refused to name the engineer of the doomed Washington-New York train, but cable news and social media quickly filled the gap Wednesday.

CNN, citing Amtrak employees, identified the engineer as Brandon Bostian, who already has already been blamed by position, though not name, for the crash by Philadelphia’s mayor. Mr. Bostian refused Wednesday to make a statement to reporters and had hired an attorney.

Prior to joining Amtrak, Mr. Bostian worked as a cashier at Target in Columbia, Missouri in 2005 and 2006, according to his LinkedIn profile.
