The Washington Redskins announced that No. 5 overall pick Brandon Scherff signed his rookie contract Tuesday, ensuring that all 10 of the team’s selections in the recent NFL draft have signed their contracts before the beginning of this weekend’s rookie mini camp.
Scherff, an offensive lineman from Iowa, was the last of the team’s draft picks to agree to a deal. Sixth-round pick Tevin Mitchel also signed his contract Tuesday after agreeing to terms Monday, according to the team.
Though terms of Scherff’s deal were not disclosed, NFL.com reported that it is worth a guaranteed $22.6 million with a $13.7 million signing bonus. As stipulated by the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, Scherff received a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth year. Scherff won the Outland Trophy, awarded to the nation’s top interior offensive lineman, in his senior season at Iowa and is expected to start at right tackle for the Redskins next season. Listed at 6 feet 5 and 319 pounds, he was the third offensive lineman selected by Washington in the first round over the past 15 years, joining Chris Samuels and current left tackle Trent Williams.
Rookie mini camp begins Friday and roughly four dozen players are expected to participate.
