There’s good news and bad news out of China these days. The good news is that the ruling Communist Party seems to be imploding. The Chinese economy has slowed dramatically. A scared leadership is cracking down, jailing even party and military insiders for corruption.

There are no Chinese women for at least 20 million young men in China, a demographic time-bomb arising from Beijing’s one-child policy. They and many others are furious at this symptom of heartless governmental repression.

The bad news is that in its death throes, Communist China may lash out against our allies and interests around the world – and possibly against us, as well. This prospect behooves us to rebuild our capabilities to deter and counter China’s near-term threats and to encourage a quick end to its monstrous regime.
