A Republican representative’s office was hit with a “glitter bomb” on Thursday, apparently in retaliation for the congressman’s pro-life stance.
The Omaha World-Herald reported that the package was sent to the Lincoln, Neb. Office of Rep. Jeff Fortenberry. Glitter bombs are designed to come apart once a package is opened, throwing small particulates of sparkly glitter and confetti everywhere that can be difficult to clean up.
“You can certainly disagree with your member of Congress, or any member of Congress, but this is pretty reckless and irresponsible,” Jennifer Allen, a spokeswoman for Fortenberry, told the paper. “It’s just a huge waste of everybody’s time and resources.”
Rep. Fortenberry himself was in Washington, D.C. at the time and avoided the glitter attack.
“Nobody was injured, except now people have glitter on their clothes,” Ms. Allen said, the newspaper reported.
The prank appeared to be in retaliation for the Congressman’s stance on abortion. A note accompanying the glitter read “Congrats, you’ve earned this for denying women their right to choice. Mind your own uterus.”
As is standard procedure for unusual packages sent to government officials, Mr. Fortenberry’s staff notified the police, FBI and U.S. postal inspector.
