President Obama’s security council took a jab at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday over social media.
“Interesting take from @FareedZakaria on why PM Netanyahu’s predictions on #Iran have been wrong for 25 years,” the official account of the president’s National Security Council tweeted.
The NSC linked to an editorial by The Washington Post’s Fareed Zakaria, which said Mr. Netanyahu “entered never-never land” during his address to Congress earlier in the week.
Republican Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado responded to the NSC afterward, expressing regret at the White House’s jab at a staunch U.S. ally.
“Disappointing to see this post about our ally @netanyahu on an official White House outlet,” the senator tweeted.
“If the deal now being negotiated is accepted by Iran, that deal will not prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. It would all but guarantee that Iran gets those weapons — lots of them,” Mr. Netanyahu told members of Congress on Tuesday.
Mr. Obama responded to the prime minister’s speech by saying it offered “nothing new.”
