The city of Ferguson named an employee Friday who was fired for sending racist e-mails to co-workers that were uncovered by a federal investigation.

Mary Ann Twitty, the former municipal court clerk, was identified by the Ferguson city spokesman as one of the people who had sent racist e-mails detailed in a report released this week by the Justice Department.

The collection of e-mails disclosed by the DOJ included messages comparing President Obama to a chimpanzee, claiming that black women who got abortions were helping to prevent crime and a depiction of black topless women dancing in Africa with the caption “Michelle Obama’s High School Reunion.”

AP reporters called Ms. Twitty’s home telephone but were not able to reach her for a comment.

Ferguson Mayor James Knowles said that two police department workers who had been suspended earlier are no longer working for the city, though he did not say whether they had resigned or been fired.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
