The FBI has sent word to law enforcement personnel across the country that a disturbing amount of young Americans are expressing interest in fighting with the Islamic State group.

A source told CNN on Thursday that many cases around the country are being investigated.

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security sent a joint warning to agencies that there is a growing trend of boys and girls who want to join the Sunni radical terror group, CNN reported.

“They’re growing increasingly concerned” about these cases, the source said.

The joint letter was sent to law enforcement agencies this weekend after a 17-year-old in Northern Virginia was detained. It states that potential male recruits tend to be a bit older and want to attack within the U.S., while females have idealistic thoughts about what Syria might be like, CNN reported.
